Series II Book 2: “Moose Gets The Job Done” Discussion

How many times, from childhood to adulthood, have we been distracted, side-tracked, or simply decided to change our minds and switch gears? Whether as a deliberate decision or a loss of attention to the job at hand, we have all experienced this problem. Our ability to maintain focus and see a responsibility through to completion is a trait that, with training and practice, can be achieved by even the most distracted of us. Add to the normal desire to side-step a chore, the additional problems associated with A.D.D. Or A.D.H.D. and the cures for distraction become a challenge. Yet with all we know, from our experiences and training, how do we open a discussion regarding this issue and challenge ourselves to focus, set goals, and complete tasks? Our story tries to do this by demonstrating how easily our animal friends can be distracted from their own chores.
The human children need to complete a trip to the store and return their supplies. In the ‘North’ this is not just a short trip to the local convenience store. Giving in to their desire to play outside, they drop their supplies and choose to have fun instead of first completing their assigned task. Their decision causes them to almost become lost in the approaching darkness and leaves a pile of supplies in the snow outside. Our animal friends, familiar with the outdoors, can rescue the supplies, but they can not answer to parents for their decision.
Discussions should address the challenge of setting goals, completing tasks, responsibilities, and decision-making, as well as teamwork, and tips for preventing distractions.
Above all, have fun!
